What is Assets Under Management (AUM)?

AUM is the total market value of all assets a mutual fund manages on behalf of investors. A larger AUM indicates investor trust and can lower expense ratios. However, very large AUM in small-cap funds can make portfolio management challenging as the fund struggles to enter/exit smaller stocks easily.
