What is an Endowment Insurance Policy?

An endowment plan combines life insurance with a savings component — it pays the sum assured on death OR on maturity if the policyholder survives the term. Returns are typically 4–6% — lower than PPF, FDs, or mutual funds. Most financial planners advise against endowment plans as the returns rarely beat inflation.
