What does it mean when a Demat account is frozen?

A demat account can be frozen by the DP or SEBI due to KYC non-compliance, regulatory orders, or at the investor's request. A frozen account cannot have any debit transactions — you cannot sell shares. You must complete the required compliance formalities with your DP to unfreeze it.
