What is an ELSS fund?

Equity Linked Savings Scheme (ELSS) is a tax-saving mutual fund qualifying for ₹1.5 lakh deduction under Section 80C. It invests primarily in equities with a mandatory 3-year lock-in — the shortest among all 80C instruments. Returns are market-linked and historically superior to PPF or FDs.
