Absolutely mandatory. Without a nominee, heirs need a succession certificate or probate even if they are legal heirs — a painful 6-18 month legal process. RBI now requires all lockers to have nominees. You can add up to 2 nominees (consecutive or simultaneous). Do it at the branch with your locker agreement.
