What is 'Loading' in Health Insurance premiums?

Loading is an additional premium charged by the insurer for factors increasing claim risk — pre-existing conditions, BMI above normal range, hazardous occupation, or tobacco use. This can add 10–50% to the base premium. IRDAI regulates loading practices and prohibits denial of insurance solely on health grounds.
